Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"I love coming to school everyday!" is music to the teacher's ears! Providing a fun and safe learning environment where students are challenged and LOVE to come to school everyday is our goal. Not only does a love of learning lead to success in life, it is vital for our students, who come from impoverished and unpredictable homes lives, to feel that school is a safe place to learn and grow the valuable skills they need to fulfill their dreams.
Our school district has the disheartening statistic of 50% of our K-8 students dropping out of high school and 100% of students qualifying for free lunch.
We are aware that if we do not prepare our students for future challenges they will not be successful when they arrive in high school and beyond.
STEM or STEAM Education is vital for our students to be prepared for a successful future in an innovative-based and technology-driven society. Our goal is to engage students, foster creativity, and develop their capabilities in STEM.
My Project
Children are natural scientists. In order to keep up with the latest in digital technology and STEM, my students need access to the most updated science and laboratory tools. Students in my class LOVE to use my one (although basic) microscope. Unfortunately, the are only able to see blurry, basic images due to the technology being so outdated.
These digital microscopes will build upon my student's natural curiosity, and allow them to explore a microscopic world that is right under their nose, but just too small to see.
Many of my students have a difficult time being successful in school due to circumstances outside of their control. It is my goal as an educator to help our students gain the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve college or career readiness, and to have access to just some of the experiences that students in more affluent schools truly have with ease.
By donating to our project, you will be able to open a world to children that was otherwise closed to them. With these scientific tools, students can begin to feel like what they're doing in school really matters! That the skills they learn in STEM - problem solving, investigating, communicating, and perseverance - will make an impact on all aspects of their lives, not just their academics. Thank you!!!
