Access to equitable educational resources for all students is important now more than ever. As a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic, I am exploring creative ways to implement STEM activities in the virtual school setting to close academic achievement gaps for my students and provide them with the resources to learn skills that will allow them to be competitive in the 21st Century workforce. I am a special education teacher who serve students that come from high-crime and poverty stricken neighborhoods. Many of my students come from families who do not have resources or financial support to meet basic necessities such as food and shelter.
Now that school will take place in a virtual setting, I want to ensure that my students have equitable access to educational supports in order to give them a fair chance at academic success while they learn at home.
I need your help with my goal. I want to raise funds to purchase instructional material and supplies to provide fun and engaging STEM opportunities for students in an effort to increase literacy and academic achievement.
My Project
The funds raised for my STEM enrichment project will enable me to provide school supplies to students who come from marginalized communities and families who are struggling to provide adequate school supplies for their children. With your help, I can purchase writing utensils, notebooks, earbuds, and USB flash-drives that will enable students to have the necessary tools for academic success. In addition, these resources will help them to complete project based learning activities to solve real world problems in their community and help increase their skills in the areas of science, math, and reading in hopes of closing achievement gaps.
