STEM Supplies for Middle School Students

My students need National Integrated Cyber Education Research Center (NICERC) supplies to create genetics projects, earthquake proof structures, alternative energy plans, and rollercoasters.

My Students

My students are from an area of low socio-economic class. Their families work hard, sometimes two jobs in order to support the children that they love. Their families speak many different languages, and many have come to the United States under refugee status, yet despite these challenges they strive to make the best possible for their students.

It is difficult for me to describe all the wonderful things that makes my kids special in just a few paragraphs.

Not only are they dedicated to their families, academic studies, and outside jobs, but they come to school with a positive attitude and an eagerness to learn.

My Project

These craft and tasty materials are needed to complete four middle school STEM projects. In this project, students will use delicious candies as the genetic material for their own pets.

Not only will students explore the basic principles of genetics, but they will design earthquake resistant structures, energy solutions for planet colonization, and develop their own roller coasters!

Students will become structural engineers as they create marshmallow and toothpick structures that can withstand different earthquakes on a gelatin foundation.

They will explore alternative energy solutions for their created colony with each roll of the dice. Working in teams, the students will document multiple simulations to represent each year of colonization using candies.

The last middle school project builds understanding in "gravity, velocity, acceleration, Newton’s First Law of Motion, friction, and the history of roller coasters". The students will use posterboard, cardstock, tape, and marbles to explore the above concepts.
