STEM Students Need Technology Help

My students need laptops to increase research skills during STEM classes.

My Students

Many of them have experienced challenges in their lives and have difficulty coming to school and concentrating on the task at hand so learning needs to be fun and factual. Our classes serve students with a range of challenges, including homelessness, crime and violence, and specific learning disabilities. The typical student in my class reads at a first grade level and many struggle with basic number sense. 90% of our students are African American or Latino on free or reduced lunch.

With limited technology, it is challenging to help promote their curiosity and love for research.

I have an awesome third grade class. They are all at different academic levels, and have an array of talents. My students come in daily with a positive attitude, ready and willing to learn despite their challenges!

Students do not have technology at home so the school is one of the sure places that they can get free access to technology.

Having more resources in the classroom is what we are striving towards. This will allow students to be able to work in different areas of our classroom, create projects and conduct research with peers, and promote a new leaning goals.

My Project

Students often get discouraged with a class when they are using obsolete equipment and materials. The donation will allow students to use current technologies with these laptops to understand and execute STEM activities. In my classroom, we practice research and project development daily using cooperative learning strategies.

The addition of technology would give my students a much needed boost of practice in the areas of STEM.

Students who are confident in their research abilities will be ready to face the challenges of higher education and the workplace. Plus in this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their literacy as well as their desire to learn and use the new technology!
