My Students

60% of the students at our school receive free or reduced price lunch and there are a high number of military families.
My goal is to provide all my students with the resources they need to be successful. It is such a sad time when you see students trying their best only to get stopped because they don't have the supplies to complete hands-on STEM activities and labs daily in our classroom. Having these supplies will give my students the needed resources to help increase their learning and be successful in my class and college. The great thing about these supplies is that they can be used for multiple years which will allow them to reach the largest number of students in need as possible.
My Project
My students will use the Geiger counter and 3 piece radioactive supply to help them master the objectives dealing with radioactivity and half-life. Having these two pieces of equipment will expose these students to a higher level of learning. Currently the students only get to see pictures and watch a video of these materials being used. Having the actual equipment to bring these lessons to life will foster a love for STEM education in these students that they will carry with them to college. Hands-on learning is such a key part of STEM. The students will have the ability to actually collect reading on three real radioactive samples, while also using the Geiger counter to measure different samples and areas around our school to collect data. This provides the students will teamwork skills, data collection, mathematics, and technology due to the amount of research and data collection and verification they will have to complete.
Having these two pieces of equipment will not only promote STEM education in my current students, but since they can be used for multiple years, it will reach so many future students.
Being able to provide my students with the highest quality of hands-on education is key to them growing as students. These materials will help them take one more step closer to reaching their goals of attending college.
