This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our classroom in the heart of the Bronx, creativity meets connection. My students are brilliant, resilient, and full of potential—but they face challenges far beyond the classroom. Many live in a neighborhood impacted by high rates of poverty and crime, and these daily realities often weigh heavily on their emotional well-being.

We’re requesting beads and string to make friendship bracelets—a simple, powerful activity that blends hands-on STEM learning with social-emotional healing.

Making bracelets allows students to practice pattern recognition, sequencing, and measurement—all foundational STEM skills. But beyond academics, it gives them a way to build community, express identity, and show care for one another.

In our diverse classroom, bracelet-making becomes a tool for building empathy and peace. It offers quiet moments of focus, chances to collaborate, and space to create something meaningful with their hands.
