My students need 5 Chromebooks. Having just a few laptops in the classroom would be so beneficial. Help us put the T in STEM!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am trying to better reach my students who represent an array of learning styles and needs. It is my goal to increase the amount of science equipment and technology used in our class so that we can better achieve STEM standards.
I teach a diverse range of 7th graders.
I have students that require remediation as well as those that need enrichment. My students are incredibly motivated and persistent in their learning, especially in science. As a second year science teacher, it is my goal to foster an appreciation for scientific inquiry while relating science and technology to the everyday and diverse lives of my students.
These resources will allow us to successfully practice science and math while utilizing technology. I am confident that my students will begin to realize that they are scientists and that science is all around them... all the time!
My Project
Although Chromebooks can be used for a variety of purposes, their main function in our classroom would be to serve as devices for collaboration and data collection. Although so many of my students are eager to learn how to use Microsoft applications such as Excel to create data tables and graphs, their financial situation denies them access to further exploration and practice.
Collaboration, and inquiry are key components to the nature of science. If my students had more access to computers, they could engage in online discussions where they collaborate, communicate their lab findings, and pose questions to one another. While reading their fellow colleagues’ blogs and comments, and responding online with their own comments, students recognize the value of clarity and what makes for strong and engaging online discussions. Students will have the opportunity to practice writing and analytical skills in their own blogs that will transfer into essays and other writing endeavors.
In an era where college and career readiness is a prominent factor in the teaching and learning process, STEM education is becoming more and more important.
I know that my students will achieve greater learning outcomes, given access to 21st century tools and content that will encourage them to think deeply.
