Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come into our classroom smiling every morning. For many of them kindergarten is their first experience with school and they would attend three hundred and sixty-five days a year if they could! They are like sponges soaking up everything.

I like to think that we teach the whole child at our school.

It's not just about the reading and writing, but inspiring the next Van Gogh or Galileo. We incorporate lots of hands-on activities so they can apply what they are learning in different ways. We have over 90% of our students who qualify for free/reduced lunch, which means their families live below the poverty level. I want to make sure they are growing in every area of their lives.

My Project

I am requesting kits where the students can build their own structures. These kits correlate to the fairy tales we are learning in class. So the children can build the bridge for the 3 Billy Goats Gruff or construct a home that the Big Bad Wolf can not blow down.

I think this would be a fun and exciting way to have them practice their math skills and incorporate it into their daily learning activities.

These skills are so important for building a foundation in critical thinking and creativity! Plus, they will LOVE them! They love constructing to begin with, but doing those kinds of activities and retelling their favorite stories is definitely something they will enjoy.
