My Project

I work in an ABA self contained special education classroom. I service students ranging from kindergarten-second grade. We work on an array of academic skills, fine motor, play/leisure, and daily living skills. I like to start students' mornings with some structured play time using STEM bins.

We use this to model for students how to play and provide hand-on materials.

The students love to earn all different kinds of sensory bins throughout their school day. We work on a lot of fine motor tasks in class to strengthen students' grips and increase their independence in tasks like opening and closing Ziplocs, backpacks, pants, jackets, etc. The fine motor tasks are set up in a work block called activity schedule. The students follow a picture schedule to collect the matching tasks, complete it and move on to the next. This helps increase students' time attending to independent work.
