My Students

My third-grade students are eager to learn. They are curious, creative, and have great imaginations even though we are a Title I school in a high poverty neighborhood.

School is a safe place and I do my best to make my classroom fun and exciting.

Most of my students live in public housing. Their neighborhoods are rough and school is a place for them to be safe. My class is mostly African American children who face a lot of challenges.

My job as a teacher is to help them overcome these challenges and become the amazing adults I know they can become.

My Project

Building blocks are an excellent tool for STEM projects. Students will design and build cars, boats, bridges, and buildings to learn about scientific principles with the building bricks. Students will be assigned a task such as building a skyscraper that can withstand earthquakes. They will need to work together to design, build and test their prototypes. They will learn that “fail” means First Attempt In Learning. Students need to learn that it is okay to fail. That inventors fail many times before they succeed. Learning how to persevere and how to work together is a crucial element in helping them to succeed as a learner.
