Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is a barrier-free Title I funded school, home to over 1500 students, with over seventy languages spoken. My children are resilient, dedicated, and determined to overcome any obstacles that they may need to overcome to soar to new heights. I am in awe of their perseverance and how they strive to be the best possible version of themselves. To say that I am proud to be their teacher is truly an understatement.

The benefits of a classroom garden are immeasurable.

Research has shown that those children who are involved in a gardening program showed higher levels of self understanding, interpersonal skills, and cooperative skills in the classroom. My students will learn about agriculture, food systems, nutrition, and nature. They will also gain knowledge in geography, language arts, science, nutrition, and math as they learn about the process through which fruits and vegetables are grown.

My students will enjoy working on STEM projects throughout the year. This annual membership will allow their creative minds to be engaged throughout the year in a myriad of STEM activities involving our class garden. STEM encompasses the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Some STEM activities that we will be participating in include creating experimental plots, composting, measuring the weather, learning about weeds, and using a journal to analyze our data.

This resource will help my students easily become engrossed in the hands of STEM activities throughout the year and will be a game changer in my classroom.
