This year, I am working with a great bunch of first graders! In my class, I have 28 of the brightest and best (at least I think so)! They come to school hungry, looking for a safe environment to be themselves. Our school provides breakfast and lunch to our children.
My students and I have created a safe, engaging, homelike environment for us to learn and grow together.
We will use this time together for not only them to grow as students, soaking in information, reaching their goals and moving on to the next grade, but also for me to grow as a teacher.
That's where DonorChoose comes in. My students are from Detroit. Not everyone can buy school supplies, and our school is fairly new. We don't have all of the materials that well established schools have.
My Project
In our school we are expected to have the children do some type of morning work every morning as they are getting ready for the day to start and eating breakfast. Last year in first grade we used a lot of worksheets. That can get very boring. This year I would love to be able to start the year off with the children doing work out of morning tubs. I would like for the tubs to be very hands on activities.
Having these STEM activities for the tubs would be a great way to start the year off.
The children would get an extra dose of Science almost every day and have a fun way to start the school day every day.
