All of my 4th grade students are special in that they all enjoy STEM learning, but have lost the opportunities to build some of the foundational skills that would have been beneficial during their 1st - 3rd grade years due to COVID-19.
COVID-19 has impacted all students in their learning to work collaboratively with other students to work on STEM projects just by nature of their inability to work in close proximity of others.
Younger students had a difficult time with the social distancing and not being able to work hands on with other individuals and were limited to work on individual projects. The resources requested are to help promote all of the STEM projects across various NGSS imbedded content (such as: creating bird beaks while learning about structure/function and the diversity within the native Hawaiian Honeycreeper population, creating electrical circuits while being challenged to create devices which can send morse code signals, etc.) and provides the students with many options when considering the solutions to their Engineering Design project tasks. The ability to take part in multiple opportunities for STEM projects will directly help students in building community contributor and effective communicator skills, as well as nuturing their abilities to complex think about innovative solutions to various problems.
