Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach kindergarten in an urban elementary school in Indianapolis, Indiana. Many of my students speak a different language other than English and are lower socio economic level. They also come to school with very little educational experiences. In a time where technology and social media consume their minds, STEM is now more important than ever. STEM activities can teach my students that school is exciting. STEM promotes problem solving and thinking critically, both of which are so important for academic success. STEM levels the playing field for my students. Everyone can contribute and participate. Many of these materials are not available at my school. I want my students to be excited about school and STEM is just one of the ways that can promote that excitement.
