Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a teacher of students with special needs in a self-contained ESE classroom. I teach in a low-income/high poverty school. Most of my students receive free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.
My students have various special needs, ranging from moderate to severe Intellectual Disabilities, Language Impairments, Autism, Physical Disabilities, and Medical needs that make learning challenging on many levels.
Despite the many challenges they face, I strive to create a nurturing, stimulating and meaningful educational environment where my students are encouraged to reach their full potential.
My Project
My students have a variety of special needs and benefit from a multi-modality approach to learning, especially when learning STEM skills. This means they need to see, hear, and touch it to get the best learning experience and to retain skills being taught!
STEM skills are best taught hands on, and I would like to bring these subjects to life for my students by introducing them to a variety of hands-on STEM materials!
Materials such as Light Boards and transparent manipulatives, Audio Science Books, Sensory Shapes and Counting Bean Bags make STEM concepts real to students who benefit from a multi-modality learning environment.
