My Students

This year my students will be lucky enough to have TWO teachers. I will be teaching my homeroom and another room Math with a bit of Science. I will be encompassing various STEM lessons within the core curriculum. I hope to make math, as well as science fun through new books.

My school is in a low-income area with a high ESOL population.

I specifically teach 2nd grade with ESOL students who are beginners, Special Ed students who don't know their numbers, and Regular Ed students on various math levels from Kindergarten level to 3rd grade. All of my students want to learn, and like to read. The need is for more Math and Science focused books for my students to read to make them become better all around students.

My Project

My classroom is lucky enough to have a very large library. However, my math and science books are scarce. I am asking for a collection of texts I can use to guide mathematical and scientific thinking in my classroom. With the books my students will have the opportunity to connect the math they are learning to other subjects and in the real world. They will be able to find solutions to problems that are relevant to themselves. Groups will be able to choose a book and work together on a presentations and increase the level of engagement by all students.

This project will make a difference to the second graders I will teach, because it will help engage them in their learning.

They will be able to make connections from literature, to mathematics and science, to the real world. I feel this project will allow my students to build on previous knowledge, and gain knowledge independently.
