My Students

My students love being involved in activities that spark the imagination. They are an energetic bunch so willing to participate in all we do at school. Our school is a rural school with just under 500 students K-8. We are located near a small town that used to be a logging town here in Central California. Our school is surrounded 360 degrees by open land - cattle grazing land, woods, brooks, and meadows. Although we don't own that land, we learn all about it while we explore our sciences.

My Project

My students need a Building Blocks of Science Light and Sound Waves exploration kit for hands-on learning. My students will be learning about the physical science concepts of light and sound and how they travel in waves. They will use flashlights to explore how light travels through different materials and what paths it takes. My students will also be able to investigate how sound travels in waves as well. They will be creating sound and examining how it travels to the ear. Students will then compare how sound and light have similarities. By collecting evidence from these two investigations, they will be able to support their claims of how they are similar (or not).
