STEM Lessons in the Library

My Students

My students come from a small town in rural North Carolina. We are a Title 1 school of about 460 students. Students range in grade level from Kindergarten to 5th grade. Our students come from a vairety of different backgrounds but work together to make our school a close-knit, engaging place to learn.

Students at my school love coming to the library and reading books and get very excited about reading.

The library is utilized often by both students, staff, and others throughout the district.

My Project

Over several weeks, students will conduct Dragon Trials using a dragon they create, to experiment with force and friction. Students will use the materials provided by this grant to conduct their experiments.

I have recently begun to teach a STEM class for 3rd - 5th grade students once a week.

Due to students not being able to share supplies it has become quite costly to provide hands on experiences for my students. Most of these materials are reusable and will be used with students for years to come. I am committed to providing hands on activities for my students to reduce the amount of screen time they are exposed to and to teach engaging, inquiry based lessons.
