My students need STEM projects to help develop their critical thinking and problem solving skills.

My Students
I teach Math and Science to a group of curious and energetic second graders. Our school is located in an impoverished area of a large city. The crime rate is very high and there are many abandoned houses, empty lots and rubbish in the neighborhood surrounding the school. Our school is Title I funded, and over 95% of my students qualify for and receive free breakfast, lunch, and after school snack on a daily basis.
I believe any child can achieve greatness, if given the right tools.
My students have very loving, caring and concerned parents who do the best they can, but cannot always afford all the tools their children need to be successful. This is why I need a little extra help making sure my students get everything they need to reach their maximum potential.
My Project
My students will be able to plan, build and test their designs through these engaging STEM kits. The Real World Challenge STEM kit gives students the opportunity to build their own bridge, well, or flash flood while using their critical thinking, and problem solving skills. It really gives them an chance to learn through trial and error and accept that it's ok to make a mistake. This kit also has career cards so students can tie their experience to the real world and maybe pick a future career. This Real World Challenge kit comes with lesson plans for the teacher so I know where to focus my attention to maximize my student's growth.
These hands-on STEM projects will give my students the tools they need to develop necessary critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Students will be able to engage both mind and body during our science lessons and learn not just from paper and pencil but through student-based and student-led projects.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
