STEM Learning for Future Scientists and Mathematicians!
My students need supplies like tape, building bricks, LEGOs, pipe cleaners, straws and toothpicks to engage in STEAM activities to develop problem solving and critical thinking skills.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Haer's classroom raised $412

My Students
The 28 multicultural children who I spend most of my day with are extremely hard working and come to school each day to do their absolute best. Although our classroom has the bare minimum in terms of supplies and equipment, my students make the best out of so little. It makes me feel extremely privileged to be their teacher. The children have also formed a bond with each other that goes beyond the walls of the classroom. They are very helpful to each other and the first ones to finish an assignment are also the first ones to want to help their classmates.
My students are also a very "giving" group.
Although most of their families do not have funds to spare, the children recently emptied their own piggy banks to help raise money for little boys and girls with cancer.
My Project
This project will help to develop the future's architects, engineers, and scientists. These materials will allow my students to engage in hands-on experiences and foster their interest in becoming the scientists that they truly are by using individual STEAM bins to create real life structures. There is nothing better than a student feeling accomplished after creating something with their own hands.
By adding art and design into STEM activities to make them STEAM activities, it will help students become better prepared to solve the creative problems of the future.
Critical thinking will be developed through this process. Students will gain an understanding of why they made what they made, own their work, and recognize its importance to the real world.
Students will use blocks, Legos, piper cleaners, straws, index cards, dominoes, and tape to problem solve how to construct real life objects such as bridges, planes, tunnels and animal homes to name a few structures. Through the process of using these materials, students will create a blueprint, construct a real life object using just specific materials in a given bin, write about their structure and finally, share with their classmates their results.
The skills of collaboration and discourse are also imperative skills that these students will be demonstrating in conjunction with math, visual arts, fine motor skills, critical thinking, problem solving and engineering! Your donation would make a tremendous impact on our future scientists!
