This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Each day one class from each grade level (K-5) visits the STEM lab for a lesson that supports their regular classroom science curriculum. Students are loving the investigations, but we would like to have the experience be meaningful as well as memorable.

In a 6 day rotation of classes, approximately 690 students visit the STEM lab (grades K-5).

We do many hands on investigations. Students are asked to bring supplies for the classes. Our school has many families that are struggling financially and cannot afford to donate supplies. It is very difficult to provide supplies for this many students.

My Project

For this project, I am creating a STEM Lab notebook with the students in grades 2-5 (about 450 students). Many students were not able to provide spiral notebooks or other supplies and it is too much for me to provide on my own. The notebooks will provide the students with an organized reference book that will be used throughout their elementary career and possibly into middle school. It will contain critical information as well as investigations. In the past, this notebook has provided a great study tool for state testing.

This project will allow the students to have a meaningful and relevant reference tool.

This notebook will not only capture the critical information and records of the STEM Lab activities, but will serve as a motivator. Many students are not aware of the future possibilites of studying and working in STEM related careers. I would like to begin to open those doors so they can start visualizing these possibilities.
