STEM Kits for Scientific Minds

My students need STEM science station kids and design and build engineering centers to help them think more critically and learn problem solving skills.

My Students

I have 29 amazing 6 and 7 year old first graders whose imaginations are just as active as their bodies.

First graders need tactile, hands-on and engaging activities to spur on their growth.

Our school has supportive parents but state budget cuts to education have meant cutting back on even essential items. Despite these budget restraints, the goal of our school is to reach every student every day, no matter what it takes. We will do whatever we can to meet each individual need.

My Project

These STEM science materials will encourage my students to build, explore, and engineer. They will have to use their best critical thinking and problem solving skills to understand and manipulate each activity. These activities and stations will help them explore magnetism, buoyancy, and motion during STEM center stations throughout the year.

It is so important for them to learn using scientific inquiry skills so that their wonder and curiosity is enhanced and not stifled.

The hands-on, engaging learning will help them really solidify their understanding of various science and engineering topics. Plus, the real-world STEM kits will help my students create a parallel to everyday scenarios and careers that can be found in the science, technology, engineering, and math worlds.

With these kits my students will be able to design, build and test a working parachute, leak proof roof on a house, and a floating raft. They will also be able to work on bridge building, vehicle building and house building with the design and build engineering centers by using photo cards and hands-on manipulatives. I can't wait to introduce these activities into our center time and in their extra time to challenge those higher level thinking skills! So often critical thinking is overlooked and I hope with these activities I will be able to add a little bit more of that in my student's lives!
