This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Basic scientific skills and knowledge have decreased in students today especially with the limitations of the pandemic. Students have been unable to work as a group or share materials this school year. As the pandemic restrictions lift, students are permitted to return to "normal" school activities. Teachers are now tasked with ensuring students catch-up on the skills and knowledge missed during the constraints of the past two years.

My grant is looking to acquire basic scientific materials to do a variety of hands-on experiments that are student driven in nature.

Kitchen chemistry experiments not only hook the students excitement but also have students engaged in their work. Student will be learning about creating/conducting experiments, writing formal lab reports, osmosis through a gummy bear experiment (various gummy candies, plastic spoon, and plastic cups), DNA through a Strawberry DNA experiment (plastic test tubes, test tube rack, cheese cloth, microcentrifuge tube), & more. The beakers, funnels, test tubes, test tube racks, soldering irons, and more will become part of our yearly materials for the classroom. The plastic spoons, plastic bowls, various candies, balloons, and more are the consumables needed to run the experiments. Please give my students the ability to STEM It Like A Real Scientist.
