First-grade students are at a very influential age. They absorb ideas like a sponge. I am often amazed at how much they can remember and how quickly they are able to become experts in their daily routines and activities.
Hands-on activities put the students directly into the learning process.
STEM activities open up the students to new ways of being engaged in their learning. We integrate science, technology, engineering and math into our daily schedule.
Project Based Learning teaches students to solve real-life problems. This is how our class works. We get students involved in the learning process. They have choices in what they are learning and how they learn.
My Project
We have very limited access to technology in our 1st-grade classrooms. Students need tools to help them with research when they are working on our Project Based Learning units. Chromebooks are very easy to use and they are mobile.
Students are able to move the Chromebooks around the room when working on lessons.
They become listening centers as well as research centers. Students who have no computer access at home will have the opportunity to come into the classroom and pick up the Chromebook and work on projects. They are able to become fluent in the use of more technology.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
