This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
All students come to school with a level of curiosity. But when teachers spark additional interest, then the learning is exponential. In 5th grade, students learn about the Earth and the Sun in a 8-week unit. We create some Solar system models, we track shadows and the Earth rotates, and we do some readings along the way. But ultimately, I would like my students to see what solar and wind energy can do.
These kits would allow my students to build models and put them to the test, using both solar and wind energy, while gathering data that later can be analyzed.
I teach two different classes so I envision assigning my students into groups. Once the models have been built and are ready for testing, we will develop test charts to gather data about the performance of these models. We will use them in different weather conditions to further our discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of these technologies.
We will also use the clipboards while making observations regarding the performance of the models.
