My Students
My twenty-nine sixth grade students are embracing their role as leaders of our school with pride, excitement, and a great sense of responsibility. As the oldest grade, they take on the responsibility of being the 'big kids'. This group of students has already taken on that responsibility at full speed. They are great 'buddies' to the younger students and are taking advantage of every opportunity to set an example.
During our first week brainstorm for our dream classroom and dream school year, students talked about wanting hands-on learning opportunities that fully engaged them in the subject matter.
They expressed the desire to have learning opportunities that reflected the community they wanted to create; collaborative, creative, and committed to learning. We have a few science supplies but are limited in our access to hands-on STEM materials. I would love to provide my students with these active learning opportunities but am without the resources to accomplish this.
Any support you can give to enable my students these unique learning experiences is greatly appreciated. We are working together to make their dream classroom a reality.
My Project
Providing students with materials for hands-on learning that engages them in creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking will change their school year. Students will be using these supplies for STEM units of study learning about modes of transportation, bridges, basic machines, and more. Hands on learning will make the learning they do on these topics deeper, more concrete and engaging.
These STEM materials will provide my students with unique learning experiences that they otherwise wouldn't have.
Every Friday students will enter the classroom and have 30 minutes of STEM time to explore, create, and challenge their thinking. Once a week students will be provided with a specific engineering design challenge to tackle with a small group of peers using the STEM materials purchased through this donors choose. We appreciate any donation you make towards our classroom and student learning.
