Early exposure to STEM helps children develop skills in creativity, teamwork, and perseverance. My students will use the STEM materials to work and explore in the science area. My goal is for my students to develop a critical stance with their work: inquiring, editing, thinking flexibly, and learning from another friend's perspective.
By adding STEM materials to our Pre-K class, I will give my students opportunities for exploration and discovery.
They will be able to make guesses or hypotheses while learning to make sense of the world around them through play.
These materials will encourage my students' natural curiosity and I will be able to encourage them to answer open-ended questions about their projects. My students will use the building bricks to be challenged to construct things from bridges to marble mazes, to test out their creations, and to make edits if necessary. Students will be able to use the magnifying glasses to observe plants, and the lifecycle of a butterfly and a frog during our upcoming units. We will use the ball bouncing kit to observe the reaction when we mix solids and liquids together.
My students will be able to use the magnetic STEM kit to explore magnetism, polarity, and magnetic attraction and repulsion. I will use the lamination pouches to document their inquiries, and finished products in a portfolio for parents to keep.
My goal is to help my students continue to develop their natural tendencies to explore and create by providing them with rich opportunities for exploration and discovery.
