Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My kindergarten through fifth grade school currently serves over four hundred students who reflect the demographics of the surrounding region. Children who develop typically, children with special needs and children who are gifted learn side-by-side in the same classroom. We are always striving to design our lessons so that all students are able to access the curriculum and be engaged in every class activity.
We have a beautiful model that allows all types of students to learn through creative PBL projects.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will deepen my students STEM knowledge. These materials will make a difference in my students lives because they will help strengthen their critical thinking skills that they need in order to access the curriculum.
STEM education is about hands-on learning through critical thinking.
All of these tools will encourage exploration and collaboration. Being hands-on is especially important for kinesthetic learners. With the appropriate materials, students will become engineers. Hands-on learning can also help students retain information. It is so important to work beyond worksheets and bring in as many materials as possible.
I will use these materials once a week to implement the engineering standards and pull their focus. We will discuss the "problem" associated with the STEM material, possible solutions, try those solutions, and come to a final conclusion.
