I would like to take time this summer to attend a training that will help me develop STEM in ELA with inquiry-based learning to keep students engaged. Junior Great Books is perfect for the GATE classroom, because I will learn the Great Books Foundation's Shared Inquiry method of learning through reading and discussion that develops student's critical thinking skills.
This project includes 4 parts: a summer introductory online training, a midyear 2-hour one-on-one training session, and 2- 2 hour end of the year trainings: The Power of Student Questions and Shared Inquiry Advanced Review.
I will learn questioning strategies that keep discussions lively and focused while improving students' reading comprehension, critical thinking, writing skills, and verbal communication.
Through this course, I will develop the craft of writing interpretive questions and using follow-up questions to involve students of all ages and proficiency levels. I will also learn how interpretive activities support student learning and meet state and district standards.
