STEM: Growing Second Graders

My students need hands-on math file folder games, STEM Activity kits, and a Chromebook with case to increase their understanding of our state standards.

My Students

Our second grade class is made up of eager learners. My students begin learning from the time each one of them walks through the door until we sing our "Good-bye" song at the end of the day. Everyone in our classroom belongs in our family and everyone has important jobs to do. I want students to soar!

Our class is made up of twenty 7 and 8 year old children.

They are willing to learn and trust me to guide them this year and to teach them everything they need to know to get to third grade. Our school is a Title I school. 98% of the students in our school are African American and come from high poverty areas. Almost all of the kids in our school qualify for free lunch. We are also a center elementary school for students who are deaf.

My Project

The resources will assist those students that have not been afforded an opportunity to have access to learning via technology. Students will be able to get academic help, download applications that will focus on building skills in which they are deficit, and improve technological skills. Because most of my kids don't have computers at home, this opportunity will give them a chance to be more successful in their academic studies. Our hands-on math and science station activities will allow students to think beyond stories and lessons presented during class and allow them to build and explore. This will allow them to solve problems and build relationships with their peers to promote positive social skills.

Because of the area in which my students live, they are faced with overwhelming challenges each day.

Most of my students don't have computers at home or technological support to enhance learning. They do not have opportunities to explore and create. It is truly a struggle just for some of my parents to provide necessities such as electricity for their homes. Please help me impact the lives of children whom circumstances have not afforded them luxuries beyond life's necessities.
