Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a wonderful community of thinkers, communicators, collaborators, and contributors. Each and every member of our faculty works to educate the whole child and improve the school community through various means. One area that needs improvement in our school is large motor skills. Our students do not play organized sports due to financial constraints. Many students go to work with their parents after school or remain inside with older siblings so they do not have the chance to exercise outside of school.
Our students originate from at least 15 different countries and speak at least 6 different languages.
Ninety-seven percent of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Our school provides a safe place for students and a wealth of resources for families including clothing, food, and assistance with billing, housing, and medical care. It is an amazing place to grow and learn.
My Project
STEM is an important factor to so many of today's careers. Giving students an opportunity to use science, technology, engineering and mathematics early in their learning career will give them many advantages as they grow.
With these materials, my students will have the chance to begin engineering at an early age.
These early opportunities will give my students a chance to dream, to aspire, to learn. They will be able to try, and sometimes fail, and sometimes succeed at tasks they might not have otherwise had the privilege to encounter. They will have the opportunity to be proud of something that they created with materials made for them.
Using the Engineer-A-Coaster Activity Set, my students will learn how physics works to create an adventurous ride on a roller coaster. With the Design and Build Engineering Centers, students will be introduced into the world of architecture, civic engineering, and mechanics as they create their own buildings, bridges, and and vehicles.
