My Students

My 2nd-grade students live in a rural community on the Big Island of Hawaii. They enjoy going to the local beaches, skate park, and the community pool. My students' backgrounds are diverse including socioeconomically, culturally and linguistically.

My 2nd graders are the most determined, persistent, exuberant, and creative group of children.

They love to read, listen to stories, dance, sing, and play learning games. I am privileged to be their teacher.

For these reasons and more, my students are deserving of a classroom environment that is conducive to optimal learning.

My Project

Did you know that millions of STEM jobs go unfilled each year? There will always be a need for STEM jobs and they require critical thinking and problem solving skills. In addition, there is a diversity problem within the field and only a faction of those jobs are held by women and minorities. I believe the future innovators of our world are in my classroom waiting to discover their passions in STEM.

My students are innately curious about the world around them and they would greatly benefit from a variety of STEM materials to support their critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Currently, my students are provided opportunities for STEM activities in my STEM center. However, I would like to expand their creativity and innovation through additional materials like the creative construction engineering building block set, Playlearn wheels to enhance their straw building construction set, and two different circuit sets that include about 80 project ideas.
