Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"We are teaching an army of environmental engineers to save the world!" But how do we get our students interested in being a science engineer?

My students come from a high-poverty neighborhood with a very diverse range of home structures: nuclear, single parent, foster and migrant, to name a few.

My students love to be at school and enjoy learning, especially when the activities are hands-on. Many of my students are English Language Learners that attend a public school in the Los Angeles area. They are always excited to experience any kind of technology that I'm able to bring to my class.

My Project

"How do you convince a roomful of 10-year-old kids to pay attention in science class?" This is a question that many teachers are asking to themselves. Our planet needs lots of help but kids seem to be not interested about our environmental problems during science class. So I will use robots to get them interested in science again. This a great hands-on activity to promote science, creativity, and problem solving. Students must love science again so they can help us in the future to solve our environmental problems. I will use the robots for an after school program where I can motivate students to be involve with environmental problems and may be some day some of these students will become science engineers. I will use videos to promote STEM and then I will have two groups building the Mindstorm. I will also display the Lego Mindstorms during our science fair to promote science engineer to the rest of the school. People need to know the importance of promoting science to our kids.

How do we convince a roomful of 10-years-old students the importance of saving our environment when they are not interested in science class?

We need to invest now and hopefully in the future we will have many science engineers saving our planet.
