My Students

I'm the STEM Coach at our junior high and high school and I teach a computer science in science class on a 9-week rotation. This allows me to interact with a large number of students at different grade levels.

In my class the students are involved in a lot of hands-on projects that relate to real world problems.

They learn to use critical thinking skills to design and engineer solutions to these problems and it's their ideas and creativity that drives the projects.

My Project

I have been selected as an International STEM Fellow and invited to travel to China to teach and learn this fall. As a Secondary STEM Coach I get to help teachers of 6th through 12 grade inspire the next generation of inventors, entrepreneurs, and leaders.

Through this trip I will connect our students with students in China and together we will learn and grow in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

This is not a tourist trip - study and planning prior to the trip and journaling, public speaking, and meetings with Chinese peers are all part of the experience. This trip will give me an opportunity to learn how our biggest trade partner views STEM education.

Upon my return I will share what I've learned and the resources I've acquired with fellow teachers. The majority of the trip expense (over $4,000) will be covered by the Chinese Education Connection and I'm asking for funding for part of my share of the cost.
