Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) Magnet school with a diverse population that reflects Los Angeles County. Half of my students ride the bus in from various parts of Los Angeles County. Most of our school receive free or reduced-price lunch.
My students are motivated and diligent students.
I not only have an ethnically diverse class, but I also have a class with varying academic abilities. I have students who have been identified with special needs as well as students who demonstrate strong academic capabilities. My students come with a keen interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Our school's goal is to prepare every child to be college and career ready, especially in the areas of STEAM.
My Project
I am requesting book collections that connect to our first grade science topics and address our New Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Our school has a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) emphasis, and I know the book collections will build the foundation my students need as well as pique their interests in the areas of science and engineering.
My first grade students enjoy science, and I know these books will engage them in the areas of life, earth, and physical sciences as well as in engineering.
I know your donation towards our project will enhance and enrich my students' knowledge in the NGSS standards as well as set a foundation for future learning in science and engineering. Our school's goal is to provide opportunities for students to pursue their interests in STEAM, and the science and engineering book collections will become important resources in my curriculum.
