STEM Books Featuring Indigenous, Women, and Neurodivergent Leaders!

Help me give my students STEM books that feature Indigenous leaders, women leaders, people of color leaders, and neurodivergent leaders!

My Students

The majority of our students live in high socioeconomic need areas where they have less access to resources. They overcome systemic challenges on a daily basis and are still determined to succeed. Many of them are English Language Learners - talented bilinguals, and in some cases, trilinguals!

My Project

My class LOVES anything to do with STEM! We've spent the last few weeks engaging in STEM challenges and STEM activities to build a love for science, math, engineering, and tech. We've been exploring how different STEM careers connect to the six Holland Codes (RIASEC).

Now, I want to give them more books that feature STEM leaders who are Indigenous, women, people of color, and neurodivergent!

The STEM books I chose feature leaders who look and think like my kids. Autistic leaders, women of color leaders, and immigrant leaders. We don't have a large population of Indigenous kids at our school, so I also picked STEM books that feature Indigenous leaders so my kids can learn about them.

Seeing themselves represented in books helps inspire kids. It shows them that they can do anything and be anyone. Representation matters. It also builds a classroom culture of empathy, inclusiveness, and culturally competent kiddos.
