My Project
This program is a series of STEM bins for each classroom that are used in the morning during arrival. Students are given a STEM related challenge and specific materials to complete the challenge. Students work as a team to complete the activities until morning announcements are over. Each activity relates to science or social studies content taught in 4th grade as well as important holidays or seasonal events during that time of year. A lot of the materials are reusable year after year and will only need to be replaced after several years of usage. There are however some consumable materials that will need to be replenished each year. These bins are stored for future use for all classrooms in future years.
This program provides multiple benefits to not only all of the students in the 4th grade next year but will also benefit each student in 4th grade in future years.
Students will have an exciting challenge as they arrive at school each day. Since the activity starts and finishes before announcements are over in the morning, this has been proven to increase not only attendance, but on time arrival. Students are also working on STEM related learning which carries over not only into their schooling but has real world applications for them as they become adults and go into the working world. In addition to the academic benefits, students are learning to work together to solve a problem. They are learning to engage and get along with their peers and share ideas and cooperate with others. These are all life skills that will carry beyond their school years and into their adult lives.
