I am beginning my first year as the STEM teacher for my building and will be teaching students in grades K-5. My students live throughout the borough of the Bronx and have Autism Spectrum Disorder. Our school is part of New York City's District 75, which provides specialized instruction and support for students with significant challenges.
Our students are eager to learn and explore and I look forward to seeing their faces light up when they are introduced to new topics or hands-on activities!
My students succeed best when they are provided with a well managed and structured environment, that’s full of love and support for their individual needs. When provided with a well rounded education including visual, auditory, tactile and technology opportunities, my students will continue to grow and achieve success!
My Project
As the new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) teacher for my school, I can't wait to immerse my students in hands-on learning! I want to give my students the opportunity to take control of their learning through play.
I want to create STEM bins with select materials and task cards inside where students will work together to create new inventions and have the freedom to just explore!
I also plan on creating a "maker station" that is full of objects made out of different shapes and materials where students can build, create and explore. The STEM bins and maker station will allow students to foster their problem solving skills and will help them to develop their critical thinking skills!
