STEM Bins, an Investigation Station Sensation

My students need first grade friendly STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) focused materials such as Unifix Cubes and Wooden Color Cubes, to use in the classroom "Investigation Station" as well as whole class project based learning experiences.

My Students

The "sounds of freedom" are heard everyday in our community as we are located beside Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. My school and class population is very transient as we have a high population of students whose parents serve in the military. Because of the transcience and low income population, I strive to create an emotionally supportive and academically rich environment for all my students.

My students' natural curiosity of the world motivates me to continue to find new and exciting ways to bring the real world into the classroom.

They thrive with hands on learning and excel when their assignments are meaningful. They are eager to learn and creative thinkers who need supplies to help them find success in school and beyond.

My Project

The supplies included in this project will create our class STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) Investigation Station. The Investigation Station will be accessed daily by students and provide opportunities to apply their science, math, technology and engineering knowledge in real world situations. Because of budget cuts my school can no longer offer STEM lab as a class for students. Through the usage of STEM bins, students will work cooperatively to solve STEM related challenges. The materials will not only be used as part of the class Investigation Station, but also during project based learning assignments.

The academic and social benefits from cooperative learning with STEM related challenges are invaluable for preparing future ready students.
