Help me give my students the materials to explore with for their STEM bins. These materials include: magnetic tiles, straw construction set, marble run, Lego Duplo, dominos, pattern blocks, craft sticks, pipe cleaners, and buttons.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students at my school have the opportunity to push their thinking by using their imagination and skills learned throughout the school year. My students are from an urban community, and many of them receive free or reduced-price lunch. They are a diverse mix of students who enjoy learning, especially in the areas of science, art, and mathematics. It is my goal to inspire my students through STEM lessons, activities, and challenges; pushing them out of their comfort zones in order to open a world of possibilities.
My Project
Aside from my lessons in STEM, one day each cycle I will be giving my classes a chance to independently explore using STEM Bins. There will be a variety of bins to choose from each week with various challenges in them.
By providing my students the time to investigate using these various materials, it will foster their creativity, problem solving skills, and critical thinking abilities.
Students will also work to develop their fine-motor skills using the materials in these bins by picking up, building, assembling, and dissembling with the smaller pieces.
