Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are within the most diverse schools in California and in the country. I have students of cultures from every part of the world and speak different languages.

The students that will benefit from this project represent an after school club called "Students in STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics)".

This club participates in a competition to build a hydrogen-fueled remote control car and promotes sustainable practices in the school and the community.

Several of the members of this club face a difficult economic situation at home, so they do not have the capacity to pay for transportation to especial events or materials. Some of them even need to work on weekends to help their family's economy. Despite the challenges that they face, they are eager to learn about how technology affects our life and how we can improve it to serve us better.

My Project

Due to COVID shelter in place, distance learning has shown that not all the students have the access to things we give for granted at school. The simplest things like post-its, balloons, and PH paper that can easily found in classrooms for group use, become something outside of the ordinary at home.

I want to make bundles of things that my student can use to discover that science and engineering can also be found at home.

I want them to realize that science is not something strange to their lives, but that it is all over as long as they are willing to look closer.
