My Project

This project was designed to provide an opportunity for STEM and Art integration during this current school year as well as the next few years to come. My students are some of the most loving, caring, creative, vivacious, and curious little people that you will ever meet! Identified as "minorities" these first graders demand attention and show up daily in a major way! They are kind, thoughtful, and surprisingly, feel all of the feelings in a major way! They also express themselves and self-advocate for personal interests unapologetically, which has made their needs and demands apparent, major, and actionable.

I service first grade at a Title I School, the materials chosen for our new STEM period & Art Therapy sessions are crucial in accommodating needs and developing coping skills and self-regulation processes.

Most of my students want to be artists and want to learn more about Art Education. Art and STEM peek the most interest amongst this grade level, but our district has been unable to adequately provide access to our students specifically and as a district, only the most affluent community schools have Art and STEM instruction and activity provided. Here at our school, it’s up to the instructors to create content and curate opportunities for exposure.

These little people deserve equity and access! They deserve rewards and positive reinforcements. They are deserving of the privileges that their national-level constituents receive. They deserve to learn about mediums and light; textures and small strokes; Dot Art, building, foundations, processes, and steps, as well as any and all things available and age-appropriate are suitable for our youth and school too! Who’s to say what they can do if afforded the opportunities? These materials will allow enjoyment during critical learning sessions.
