Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are motivated learners from a Title I school who look forward to exciting learning experiences in their STEAM classroom. Some of them have special needs while some others are struggling with their foundational Math and Science concepts. Since they are from a Title I school in an urban area, they can benefit from good quality resources that make learning authentic and interesting.

My Project

I am requesting a Build a Business Financial Literacy kit, cash registers and ATM to learn Math skills. Our school has been implementing STEAM in all of our elementary classrooms including Pre-K and Kindergarten. As students build and set up their grocery stores with their engineering and math skills, they will also calculate the cost of doing so using financial literacy skills.

The financial literacy kits will help students build and budget for their project plan.

Students in younger grades like to pretend and play. Incorporating STEAM concepts and financial literacy skills in their small group learning will make the lesson authentic and practical. It will have real world applications when they can take a doable trip to the grocery store as a part of a classroom field trip.

Parents can reinforce those skills at home by taking students to shop and letting them do the math while waiting at the checkout. This project will hopefully help students make financially sound decisions in their future in bigger transactions.
