My Students
My 90 eighth grade students are very excited about learning. They come from a low socioeconomic background with over 85% being eligible for free lunch. These students however are very respectful and responsible and have been working towards restorative justice over the past three years. This work and their focus on mindfulness this year has really helped them to become more reflective and responsible as middle school students both inside and outside of the community.
Math is challenging for many people, however, my students are always striving to have a growth mindset as mathematicians and have found great pride in themselves when they begin to watch themselves master the content.
It is a beautiful thing to be able to watch students recognize their abilities and their worth, day in and day out.
My Project
Providing my students with a 3D Pen, Robotics Kit and classroom printer for my students to create design ideas from their laptops allows my students to integrate engineering into the math classroom. Math and Science go together hand in hand but they are so infrequently encorporated into each of the different subject areas.
Critical thinking, collaboration and creativity are all skills crucial to the success of these students and our world in the future.
By experimenting, making mistakes and collaborating to fix those mistakes with these resources my students will be more prepared for the future. These tools will give them access to opportunities that they would never experience otherwise.
