My Project
Science can be engaging and interesting! It can also be a powerful tool that connects families and schools through hands-on learning.
I'm requesting different types of magnetic tiles for my students to engage in a fun and hands-on STEM project focused on engineering and design.
First, students will learn about different types of pollution on Earth and explore alternative energy sources that can help reduce environmental pollution. Next, students will be divided into four groups to build various magnetic tile structures, using creativity and teamwork to experiment with design, stability, and function.
Then, students will make predictions about which structure will be the tallest or most stable, and test their designs through challenges. While testing, each group will have a student use our classroom iPads to record a video for scientific data and reflection.
By the end of the study, students will create an informative scientific presentation to demonstrate their understanding of engineering concepts. Students will also take their magnetic tile designs home to explain what they learned to their families.
My students love hands-on activities. This special STEM project will help them collaborate with peers and family members, while deepening their understanding of engineering design and technology—aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards.
