STEAM'ing Up the Makerspace With Virtual Reality Expeditions

My students need Virtual Reality Standalone Headsets to virtually take students beyond the walls of our classroom as we learn and explore our community and world.

My Students

Our library is an active hub of learning in our school. Students visit the library each week with their homeroom teacher to explore and create in the STEAM Makerspace Place or collaborate and communicate in the Learning Commons Spaces. Our library doors are always open and students are encouraged to come to the library to fulfill a vivacious love of reading and STEAM learning.

Because more than 40% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunches, our school is dedicated to providing a safe and inviting environment, where expectations are high, and students are encouraged to find a passion and love of learning.

Many of our students come from diverse homes and a low socioeconomic status. Some students struggle to get ahead educationally at an early age because of the disadvantage of their home lives. We focus on their potential and cheer them on to be the best that they can be. We encourage all students to believe that the sky's the limit when it comes to their learning.

My Project

With this project, virtual reality (VR) standalone headsets will be purchased to guide students on virtual field trips to explore places all around the world without leaving the classroom.

The students will use the VR Headsets to engage in virtual reality learning opportunities that are enriched through 3-D interaction with dimensional objects, animals, and environments.

Students will use the headsets with the Google Expeditions App, a virtual reality teaching tool that leads students to join immersive virtual trips all over the world. Students will have the opportunity to get up close with historical landmarks, dive underwater with sharks, even visit outer space!
