This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend an extended-day program offering rigorous activities that support academic achievement and character development. Most students receive free lunch with living conditions under unique challenges. Our school has a population of over 75% of students whose first language is other than English. With this aside, we are fortunate to have students that are determined to exceed expectations and prevail to their highest potential. There is an opportunity to help my students through holistic reaching of the entire community. Participating in extended school activities allows for meaningful engagement with positive influences to help children excel!
My Project
My project will allow students the opportunity to embrace science, technology and math in a practical settings making it a real-life connection. My students are in need of a laptop to assist with researching and integrating technology. 21st century learners are able to explore literacy in computer applications and this project allows my students to take on that challenge. I want my students to be able to apply research strategies towards math and science in a setting that encourages their participation to foster learning. I will use themes of renewable energy sources and electricity to demonstrate differences in energy globally. The students will be able to research energy sources in various nations while creating a project based learning activities and evidences. Student groups will research differences in energy sources across areas of the world while producing replicas of energy tools as discovered through their research. At the end of the project, students will be able to discuss energy sources, compare models across nations and demonstrate learning through technology.
