My Students

My enthusiastic middle school students rise to the challenge in our "STEAMER" projects where students combine ingenuity with writing skills to build inventions, write about them, and collaborate together. My students are from various backgrounds and skills. They work hard and excel at thinking outside of the box. STEAMER combines science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics, English, and reading.

Hands on projects enable my students to gain real world skills, and their engagement skyrockets!

My Project

Students engineer projects of their own design and write about them. This project enables all students the opportunity to delve into hands on learning and to improve their ability to work together to complete a goal. For example, in our last project one of my students taught herself how to use a "Makey Makey" electronics kit to devise a cardboard piano, while another group engineered a boat out of pvc pipe with an adjustable sail.

As part of the project, students discuss their ideas with one another and present to other students.

The microphone device would allow even the most soft spoken student to be heard.
