My Students

Our students are serious artists. They tell me about their trips to art museums, bring in art they have made at home on their own, and excitedly create work that amazes me every day in our school's art room.

Our school is a neighborhood school in one of the largest urban areas in the country.

Our students come to school from the surrounding neighborhood as well as other parts of the city. Having a diverse group of students means that we have a lot of fun in art class. Our kids are serious about their art projects and tell me how excited they are to come to class. They learn from each other as we tackle new projects each year.

My Project

Student artists will become activists at this year's spring art show. I will be working with their science teacher to create an event showcasing their work throughout the year. Students will be engaging in art-making and engineering projects with a focus on Climate Change and the environment in current events. I am requesting canvases for original paintings, turbines for sculpture projects that incorporate ideas for alternative energy, sculpture materials for an installation piece about global warming and drought, and some additional basic art supplies to keep us going. Our STEAM focus will bring science and art together, but will also challenge students to think about the societal and political aspects of environmentalism.
