Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a high poverty school in the midst of apartments and single-family homes. Third of the students are from low-income homes and they receive free or reduced-price lunches. I have a diverse group of students from many ethnic backgrounds.
LEGO building is their favorite activity that triggers creativity, imagination and excitement that can last for hours for my kinders.
It is a wonderful learning tools that my students love to dig their hands into. With LEGO pieces, the possibilities are endless.
My Project
Building with LEGO Simple Machine Set will enrich our students with problem solving, critical thinking skills, expand their creativity, and explore real-life STEAM education. Students will have picture cards that guide them to follow the design process from beginners to advance level lessons. This set includes gears that twist and turn to make a toy top spin in motion. Since gears are used in many toys, I would like to use this concept of engineering in class to make a LEGO wind-up toy robot that will move about in the classroom to carry sharpened pencils to students
Seesaw explore levers and its movement and balance.
Students will test out their predictions and try out different weights to experiment what makes the seesaw balance. With the LEGO Simple Machine set, my students will be inspired as STEAM- minded leaders and engineers of tomorrow.
More than half of students from low‑income households
